Charlotte Church chops off her newly red locks

What better way to forget a scandal than to undergo an image overhaul.

And following on from her embarrassing knickers blunder, Charlotte Church has chopped off her locks and given fans a new talking point.

The Welsh star showcased her new sophisticated bob at LAX airport, still managing a smile despite fighting jet lag after the lengthy flight.

The cheeky singer was forced to apologise this week after footage emerged of her stumbling around at a charity polo event with her underwear pulled down and in full view.

She quickly quashed rumours she had been doing the deed with boyfriend Jonathan Powell, saying she had been the victim of a weak bladder.

Charlotte, 25, blamed her desperation on consuming a bottle of wine and claimed all the cubicles at the outdoor event were engaged.

She said: 'Regrettably, oh-so regrettably, I had not the time to pull up my rather large pants.

'I hope I can be forgiven for these antics but, you know, when you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go.'

The former Over The Rainbow judge unveiled her new red colouring last weekend during a not-so-glamorous trip to her local Tesco store.

And now she has completed the stunning look by opting for a shorter style, that rests just below her ears and above her shoulders.

Usually, the baby-faced singer does not look old enough to be a mother to three-year-old Ruby and Dexter, two.

But her transformation, combined with her flared trousers and denim waistcoat, added a look of maturity to the voice of an angel.

Despite a six hour delay on the flight, Charlotte and her boyfriend seemed in good spirits, with Jonathan still managing a smile as he was forced to push the luggage while his missus walked baggage-free.

Rebecca Ferguson goes clubbing after splitting with Zayn Malik

She might have insisted that she was happier than ever in her relationship last month, but Rebecca Ferguson has split with Zayn Malik.

The X Factor stars shocked fans by confirming their love for each other earlier this year, but after both finding success in the music business, they decided to part for the sake of their careers.

Rebecca proved she’s not one to stay at home and grieve though, and instead threw on a little black dress to hit the town last night.

The Scouse singer was spotted out with a friend at Mosquito Bar in Liverpool, to take her mind off the break-up.

She was also celebrating her birthday on the night out, after turning 25 on Thursday.

And she tweeted after her special day: ‘I love my family so much and friends and fans you made my birthday a very special day mwah love you xxx’

Rebecca had faced much criticism for dating One Direction singer Zayn, who at 18 is six years her junior.

Fans of the boyband had targeted her and she hit back on Twitter yesterday, posting: ‘One thing I despise is a bully wether in real life or on twitter do not message my 12 year old girls abuse is vile!!’

But the reason behind the split is said to be their careers and they are both rumoured to have realised being unattached would be better at this point in time.

Rebecca said: ‘I’m happy I’ve decided to be single – my children, my family and my career are now my world', the Sunday Mirror reported.

Just last month the X Factor runner up had gushed over her relationship with Malik though, saying she was happier than ever.

She told Reveal magazine: ‘I’m in love and it’s a wonderful feeling. I’ve never felt like this before.

‘It took a while before we looked at each other in a different light. There was no one particular moment, it just evolved over time. But he made all the running.’

The mother-of-two had even introduced him to her children and added: ‘My kids were with me right from the start of things on the programme so that had always known Zayn.’

Their relationship became public knowledge in March but they are said to have split up last week after four months of dating.

Cheryl Cole tells Ashley, 'It's over' - she rekindles friendship with Simon Cowell

Her popularity was beginning to take a nosedive after turning her back on The X Factor and straight into the arms of serial cheater Ashley Cole.

But Cheryl Cole appears to have taken hold of the reigns again, telling her ex-husband their relationship is over for good.

She has also struck up her friendship with music mogul Simon Cowell again, after they temporarily stopped speaking when Nicole Scherzinger replaced her as a judge on the USA series of the talent reality show.

The pop princess finally cemented her fate by dumping Ashley via text message last week following a string of sordid revelations.

A source close to the 28-year-old confirmed any reconciliation between the former husband and wife has now been destroyed.

They said: 'Cheryl heard of the first scandal on Saturday night (July 16) before it came out on Sunday and was naturally fuming.

'She sent Ash a text immediately telling him it was over.

'Cheryl didn’t want to speak to him and couldn’t handle having another confrontation so she messaged him instead.'

The insider told the Daily Star: 'She made it clear any chance of a reunion was over and told him to delete her number and never contact her again.'

The sportsman's shameless reputation has sunk further into the mud, as air hostess Kerry Meades and models Jessyca Rayanne and Collette McBarron claim to have shared a bed with him during brief flings.

Former beauty queen and personal trainer McBarron says she was even brazen enough to quiz her love conquest about his marriage.

She told the Mail on Sunday he blamed tying the knot for his philandering ways.

He said: 'Things change when you get married.

'You go from being someone’s boyfriend to being their husband, it changes quite a lot of things.

'When you’re someone’s boyfriend, you don’t feel so much responsibility towards that person.

'Once you’re a husband you can’t act in a way that you would have done if you were a boyfriend.'

When the 26-year-old probed him as to why he couldn't stay faithful, she said: 'I asked him, "Why did you do it?", meaning why did you cheat on Cheryl. He didn’t really answer. He sighed.'

And as Cheryl finally took the courage to end their romance, the 30-year-old reportedly didn't want her back anyway.

The friend said Ashley took 24 hours to respond to Cheryl's queries about stewardess Meades, and when his reply finally materialised on Monday, news of his other romance with McBarron had leaked.

But instead of begging for forgiveness, he said he was not interested in relighting their flame.

Cheryl's friend said: 'Ashley didn’t even apologise... he said he’d done nothing wrong as they weren’t "officially back together".

'Cheryl knows deep down that Ash is never going to change. He loves being a playboy and she said he will be forever jumping from girl to girl.'

But despite cutting ties with Ashley, the Girls Aloud star has agreed to become godmother to his niece.

She remained close to his younger brother Matthew and his wife Lisa, following the birth of their daughter Livvia in April.

Ashley has been offered the role of godfather, as he is to his sibling’s eldest son Kenzie, 11.

Despite having a breather from mentor Cowell following The X Factor USA saga - the pair have now rekindled their friendship.

The 51-year-old millionaire is set to help her crack the States and there is talk of a duet with Rihanna.

Her friend added: 'She’s using her latest heartache to throw herself into her work.

'He’s (Simon) once again vowed to do everything he can to help her launch her solo career in the US.

The Girls Aloud star has already recorded four tracks, which the Syco boss believes will catapult her into the US spotlight.

The source added: 'She’s in talks with Rihanna about a possible duet and there’s even talk of Cheryl supporting her upcoming US tour dates.'

Miss Roberts flashes leopard print lingerie

In her first solo music video, Beat Of My Drum, she wore patterned pants and now Nicola Roberts is flashing some new knickers.

The 25-year-old singer was shooting a video in New York yesterday for her new upcoming single and showed off a pair of leopard print smalls.

The Girls Aloud star teamed up the pants with a barely-there floral dress and some Nike high tops.

Despite looking like she’d forgotten her trousers, Nicola appeared to be starting a new fashion trend in the Big Apple.

Her second single Lucky Day follows the release of Beat Of My Drum last month from her debut solo album yet to be released.

The album, titled Cinderella’s Eyes will be released on September 26 this year to follow on from two single releases.

But although she received raving reviews from music critics for Beat Of My Drum, Nicola failed to top the charts with it.

The upbeat pop song was written by Nicola, with the help of Maya von Doll, Wesley ‘Diplo’ Pentz and Dimitri Tikovoi.

Nicola was filming the video yesterday at St Marks Place in the East Village of New York City and when she wasn’t dancing around, she posed behind some newspaper stands.

And she tweeted after filming: ‘Today was my ‘Lucky Day’… Had the best time shooting my 2nd video. I met some lovely people. I love NY… All feels very surreal right now. X’

But after a fleeting trip Stateside, Nicola was back in London today for the film premiere of Horrid Henry at London’s Southbank today.

Roberts tweeted this morning: ‘Just landed in London after THE scariest bumpiest flight ever! Didn’t sleep a wink! HATE flying x’

She walked the red carpet to lend her support to Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh, who has a role in the children’s film.

Sarah Harding also arrived for the event, but their other bandmate Cheryl Cole was nowhere to be seen – nor was Nadine Coyle.

Tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki is dating golfing star Rory McIlroy

Tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki has entered a new game of doubles with golfing star Rory McIlroy.

Just days after the sportsman ended his relationship with his childhood sweetheart, he has been spotted with the blonde Danish player.

This is the second blow for Holly Sweeney, who was dumped by Rory last Christmas, before he went grovelling back for another try.

But sparks flew when the world's No1 seed in women’s tennis met the US Open champion at a boxing match earlier this month.

Caroline and Rory, 22, fell for each other after they were seated together to watch David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko in Germany on July 2.

The pair were clearly infatuated with one another from the start, as they began publicly flirting on Twitter.

When Rory's management confirmed his 'amicable' split from Holly last week, he embarked on a new romance on the final day of the British Open.

The night before she tweeted him to wish him luck in the tournament.

After their original meeting, Caroline wrote on Twitter: 'Fantastic fight!

'Also met Rory McIlroy, who was sitting just behind me :) Really down to earth great guy :)'

He responded with birthday wishes on July 11, joking: 'You’re getting old.'

She suggested he could buy her a legal drink in the US now she was 21.

But while the Sunday Mirror reports Rory has set his sights on new flame Caroline, he said he made 'the biggest mistake' of his life when he ended things with Holly in December.

The former couple featured in a fly-on-the-wall BBC Northern Ireland documentary called Rory's Major Breakthrough.

He admitted he was often 'arrogant' on the course and walked with a  'swagger', but said Holly kept him grounded.

During filming, he confessed: 'I had to do a lot of begging and grovelling to get her back.'

'Holly and I have been together since I had just turned 16 and she was 14.

'She knows me better than basically anyone else in this world does, apart from my parents. And someone like that with you is very grounding.'

Holly, his girlfriend of six years, has now moved out of his £3million home in County Down and is on holiday in Dubai.

Pippa Middleton’s fancy BMW sports car is clamped

Pippa Middleton may have friends and family in high places, but that hasn’t prevented the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge having her car clamped.

It’s a humiliation that thousands of ordinary people face every day and will probably have come as quite a shock to the shapely 27-year-old, whose life lately has centred around looking fabulous at swanky events and adorning magazine covers.

According to eyewitnesses, Pippa’s £40,000 BMW Z4 soft-top was immobilised by a bailiff in a street in London’s fashionable Chelsea, where she has a flat.

We’re sure that Pippa will be driving around again soon. However, it may not be in the Z4 for very much longer, because according to reports the royal sister-in-law may be getting an upgrade to an armoured car.

While Kate is guarded round-the-clock by the Royal Protection Squad, Pippa’s security arrangements are more low-key.

She does carry a panic alarm linked to the police, but her parents are said to be worried that the hugely popular party planner may be attacked by a crazed fan or even kidnapped and want her protection beefed up.

Millionaires Michael, 61, and Carole Middleton, 55, want to buy Pippa a £95,000 bomb-proof Audi or BMW according to The Sun.

A source told the paper: ‘Carole and Michael have taken a raft of measures following advice from one of William's most trusted bodyguards.

‘Pippa's car will have all the latest security devices, including armour plating. It will be bomb proof.’

Since attending the Royal Wedding in April as a bridesmaid to her sister, Pippa has become something of a national obsession, not least because of her much celebrated derriere.

A Facebook page has even been set up called the Pippa Middleton Ass Appreciation Society, which urges internet users to show their appreciation for the ‘Minxy Middleton’.

One fan, MeaganR, wrote on the page: 'I want a bum like Pippa Middleton- anyone else agree after seeing her in that dress!?'

There is also a spoof Twitter account with over 3,000 followers for Pippa’s assets called @pippasass, which after the royal wedding jokingly asked: ‘'Wow what a wedding. What did people think of my Bum?’

She’s sure to find that particular profile a bit cheeky – along with the bailiff who clamped her car.

Lucy Mecklenburgh shows off her enviable bikini body

She was spotted at bootcamp in Ibiza last month where she tried to lose weight with a series of intense exercise regimes.

And it seems Lucy Mecklenburgh's time at the No. 1 Bootcamp certainly paid off, judging by pictures of the 19-year-old star on holiday in Costa del Sol, Spain earlier this week.

The Only Way Is Essex star showed off her enviable bikini body in a pretty pink triangle bikini as she enjoyed the sunshine alongside boyfriend Mario Falcone.

The pair certainly made an attractive couple, as Mario also left people jealous with his muscly physique, which he displayed in a pair of bright yellow swimming shorts.

Lucy teamed her two-piece with a pair of tan wedges and some tiny denim shorts, which she later removed to ensure an even all-over tan.

And Mario certainly appeared to be enjoying the view, helping Lucy adjust her bikini bottoms as she readjusted herself on the sunlounger.

Mario also ensured his girlfriend was well-hydrated during their holiday, bringing her bottles of water and cocktails as they basked in the sunshine.

Later in the afternoon, the pair indulged in a kiss and cuddle before they headed out for the evening.

Lucy, who is a size eight and weights nine stone, previously revealed the reason she went to bootcamp was because all the Only Way Is Essex cast members have been putting in extra effort getting into shape for the new series.

She said: ‘Everyone’s gone a bit hardcore trying to lose weight for the next series.'

And, after losing 7lbs during her week-long stay, Lucy said she was thrilled with the results.

She tweeted: 'Leaving ibiza @no1bootcamp 2day woo! Weigh in this morning i have lost half a stone & 2 inches from my waist & hips! .. & i feel AMAZIN!x'

Lucy later added: 'I came to @no1bootcamp 2 tone up,feel healthier & build strength\stamina & i have defo acheived that! Still got my curves!!'

Beverly Sass said she had found it tough all of her life being the love child of Max Bygraves

After revelations that he had fathered two sons outside his marriage, it seemed that all the skeletons in Max Bygraves's closet must surely have emerged.

But yesterday a glamorous 57-year-old revealed that she is the third secret love child of the veteran entertainer.

Beverly Sass said she had made repeated attempts to contact Bygraves, whose wife of 69 years Blossom died in May. She claimed, however, that he had shunned her approaches, leaving her devastated.

'For him, it is like I don't exist,' she told the Daily Mail. 'It's been heartbreaking.'

Bygraves, 88, worked as a singer, actor, comedian and TV presenter for almost 60 years. He married Blossom Murray in 1942 and they had three children, Christine, now 68, Anthony, 64, and Maxine, 59.

In 1987 Bygraves, who cultivated a wholesome, family-man image, admitted he was the father of Stephen Rose, born after a brief affair with actress Pat Marlowe in 1961. Miss Marlowe committed suicide 16 months after Stephen’s birth.

Then in 2002, it emerged that he had fathered another son, John Rice, now 65, during an affair with landlady Margaret Garriock four years after his marriage. The third love child, Mrs Sass, is the daughter of June Mack, who was an 18-year-old showgirl when she met Bygraves in the 1950s.

Despite his infidelities, Blossom stood by her husband, who showed little remorse and was even quoted as saying: ‘My outlook is that life is like a self-service restaurant and you have to help yourself. Sometimes when you see what the other fella has got, you want some of it too.’

Cheshire-born Mrs Sass, who once worked as a backing singer for Lonnie Donegan but is now a church secretary in Lake Tahoe on the California-Nevada border, said she had remained silent until now out of respect for his family.

‘I know that Max has his own life, which I am not part of, but I still thought we may be able to meet once a year and spend some time together,’ the twice-married mother of two told the Mail.

‘I once sent him a Father’s Day card with my telephone number in it. But he never replied. I have really struggled with this, all my life.’

Mrs Sass said her existence was kept a secret by her father’s showbusiness friends. She met him several times when she was around five years old, but saw him for the last time when she was 19 and he was performing in London.

‘There must have been about 50 people waiting backstage for autographs. I worked my way to the front and asked the stage manager to let Max know that Beverly, June Mack’s daughter, is here.

‘He didn’t show and in fact, after an hour, he sent someone down to see if I was still waiting for him. When he thought I had gone, he came down.  We then spoke, but he looked at the ground the whole time.

‘He asked me if I was at school, what I was doing, where I was living. But one thing he did say, which I have treasured, was, “I just want you to know, I was once very much in love with your mother.” But then that was it.

‘That was the last time I saw him. I was shocked to find out that he had two other children outside his marriage and that I have two half-brothers who I have never met. I cried when I found out.’

Bygraves and his wife moved three years ago from Bournemouth to Queensland, where they hoped the climate would help her long-term chest complaint. However she had to move into a care home where Bygraves, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, joined her shortly before she died.

Mrs Sass, whose mother died  seven years ago, emigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s.

‘Moving to the States has made things a little easier for me, because I don’t hear anything about him over here,’ she said. ‘It has been less painful because of that. I know he is very ill but I would still like the chance to have a reconciliation.’

Natalie Cassidy on being a single mother and her plummeting weight

She never planned on being a single mother, but two months after splitting with Adam Cottrell, Natalie Cassidy seems to be looking at the positives in her life.

The former EastEnders star has lost three stone and says she’s happy being a size 10 and to pose again in a bikini.

But part of her weight loss has been down to the stressful break-up with Cottrell after the birth of their child.

Cassidy hit headlines in May after she had a huge bust up with her former fiancé Adam in front of their baby Eliza, 10 months old.

He later pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage and now has a restraining order under his name.

The stress of the split left Natalie unable to sleep or eat and her weight plunged to 9st 2lb.

She started smoking and turned to sleeping pills to numb the pain but soon stopped taking them as she didn’t want to be ‘spaced out’ .

After shedding weight following the split, Natalie, 28, told the Sunday Mirror: ‘I have been through the mill with weight.

But after pulling herself together and getting her health back on track she is now a healthy 9st 7lb.

‘I have been a size six, I’ve been a size 16 – bordering on an 18. But I am a size 10 now, and I feel that I am the weight I should be.’

She added that she had her breasts surgically enlarged to a D cup at the age of 22 when she was a bigger dress size but originally an A cup.

‘I am smaller all over now, so my boobs do look bigger – but I’m not complaining. Who moans about huge knockers and a tiny waist?’ she said.

Natalie says that she started exercising when Eliza was four months old and admits she works very hard to stay in shape because she piles on the pounds very easily.

She recently showed off her figure on a holiday in Turkey and looked happier than we’ve seen her in months.

But one thing she wasn’t planning on was being a single mother and told the newspaper: ‘I wanted me and Adam to be a family forever. I wouldn’t have chosen to have a baby with someone if I didn’t think it would be forever.’

Adam still sees Eliza regularly on supervised visits though, she added, and Natalie wants him to be as involved as possible.

Speaking about their tumultuous relationship, she said: ‘People have called him a wife-beater but it wasn’t like that.

‘Sure, physical things happened, but I didn’t regularly get black eyes, or get punched around the room. It was shouting, abuse, name  calling, more mental cruelty. And I can’t run the risk of going back to that life.’

Natalie admitted that perhaps they rushed into having a baby but she thought the relationship might have improved.

She admits that she still loves Adam and it is a magical thing to have a child with somebody.

‘Love doesn’t just go away, you can’t just erase it. But I know it can’t work out. There are too many issues. He has problems.

‘He is a complex person but he is a good person. He has a heart of gold, but he needs to learn from this experience. I hope he gets better in his life.’

The couple were set to marry later this year in a £50,000 ceremony but Natalie booted him out of their two-bedroom flat in Hertfordshire after their fight, which saw Adam 'punch a hole in a microwave oven'.

Diana's diamonds: William gives Kate his mother's favourite earrings

She already wears Princess Diana’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Now the Duchess of Cambridge has another heirloom from her husband’s late mother.

Prince William has given her a pair of Diana’s favourite earrings, also in matching sapphire and diamonds.

Kate, 29, has given them her own style twist, having the studs remodelled into drop earrings.

A courtier is quoted as saying: ‘Now they’re married, William wanted her to have some of his mother’s favourite pieces.’

William said he proposed to Kate with Diana’s 19-carat engagement ring so his mother could be part of the occasion.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore them for the first time when she watched Andy Murray from the Royal Box at Wimbledon last month and also wore them during the couple's official visit to Canada and America.

The earrings were thought to be among Diana's most precious jewels and she was spotted wearing them at dozens of events during the 1980s and 1990s.

It is not the first time the Duchess' style has been compared with the late Princess Diana's.

Kate wore a similar outfit to that of Princess Diana when she visited Canada by donning a maple leaf hat.

Both sported red hats with white dresses during their official visits but Princess Diana made a slightly bolder statement by wearing a matching red scarf.

Crowds across the globe were eager to make comparisons as Diana and Charles made a similar tour in 1983.

Princess Diana was the main attraction with thousands of people waved flags and shouted the slogan 'We Want Di'.

And Prince William's new wife was also a real crowd pleaser and her wardrobe had been one of the main topics of discussion.

The couple are currently deciding on a permanent London base, and are tipped to take Apartment 1a in Kensington Palace, a lavish 19-room suite that was once the home of the late Princess Margaret.

It was reported the couple also considered Apartments 8 and 9, the former marital home of Charles and Diana where William grew up, but Kate is said to have been uncomfortable with the idea.

'They have been to look around Margaret's apartment and like it very much,' said a source.

Juicy Jeni has a night out on Coleen Rooney's patch ...and ends up in a catfight

In her black mini-skirt and skyscraper heels, she was clearly dressed for a fun night on the town.

But the smug grin on the face of Jennifer Thompson – the prostitute who says she slept with Wayne Rooney – suggests she was also up to mischief.

The former public schoolgirl managed to trigger a catfight on Saturday when she ‘deliberately’ ventured on to Rooney’s wife Coleen’s turf, showing up at one of the WAG’s favourite haunts.

When she was spotted by a member of Coleen’s party, friends of the footballer’s wife started hurling abuse at Miss Thompson and chased her through the streets of Liverpool.

The prostitute, who charges £1,200 a night, told last year how Rooney had paid her for sex while Coleen was five months’ pregnant with their son Kai, now 20 months old.

Miss Thompson claimed the Manchester United and England star had slipped away from his £4.5million mansion in Cheshire to meet her at Manchester’s five-star Lowry Hotel seven times – including for a threesome with fellow prostitute Helen Wood, 24.

So it is perhaps unsurprising that when she arrived at the exclusive Mosquito Bar in Liverpool, she did not receive a warm welcome.

Clare Rooney, Wayne’s cousin and Coleen’s best friend, spotted Miss Thompson, 22, as she pulled up in a taxi outside the cocktail bar in the city’s Met Quarter. According to onlookers, Clare raced towards Miss Thompson to challenge her.

While Coleen, 25, remained in the bar, her friends apparently unleashed a torrent of abuse, shouting ‘slag’ and ‘you ****ing piece of ****’.

Miss Thompson, daughter of an oil company executive, made a hasty retreat, despite her platform heels, but was chased for 30 yards by three of Coleen’s party before they gave up and returned to the bar.

Wearing a see-through black vest top and waist-length hair extensions, Miss Thompson was undeterred and was later photographed entering nearby Newz Bar.

Liverpudlian Coleen, who wore a white mini-dress and matching peep-toe shoes, was said to be aware of the argument but had remained inside the Mosquito Bar.

Miss Thompson, who signed up to an escort agency at the age of 19 under the name ‘Juicy Jeni’, had been on a tour of Liverpool’s bars as a ‘guest DJ’.

Described as ‘attention-seeking’ and ‘fame-hungry’ by friends, she has been accused of capitalising on her high profile and is said to be hoping to launch her own escort agency later this year.

A friend of Miss Thompson’s said: ‘Jen knows which bars Coleen goes to, so it will have been no coincidence that she showed up there ... That is just Jen for you.’

Sarah Ferguson with ex husband Prince Andrew

Only last month, she admitted she was still on the brink of bankruptcy.

But the Duchess of York has now claimed that she is debt free - after her long-suffering former husband came to her rescue.

Sarah Ferguson claims she has managed to pay off in full the £2million she owed creditors after a string of failed business deals.

And the 51-year-old compares Prince Andrew to a heroic knight who 'rode in on his white charger' to save her.

The duchess made the comments in an interview with Hello! magazine.

They come only weeks after she gave an interview to a U.S. television station, in which she confessed: ‘I’m not just emotionally bankrupt, I’m continually on the verge of financial bankruptcy.’

It was then she also admitted she has ‘little’ understanding of money because of her gilded life after marrying the prince.

‘I went to Buckingham Palace and lived on the second floor and suddenly you have to remember to tell someone if you’re leaving, then you have to order your food in time because the kitchen is two miles away, you have to not open your curtains, you have to have so many restrictions,’ she said.

‘I got to a point where I didn’t know what to do. When we got divorced I just had to get on with it but I didn’t understand things about money, probably because I never had to.’

During her six-part U.S TV series, Finding Sarah, it was pointed out to the duchess that she was still living a luxury, globe-trotting lifestyle.

She replied: ‘It’s just because my ex-husband’s so nice that he lets me be a guest at his house. If I didn’t have him I’d be homeless.’

In her Hello! interview, Sarah does not make clear whether her former husband actually dug into his own pocket financially to help her or if he just provided emotional and practical support by allowing her to continue to live with him at Royal Lodge, the Queen Mother’s former home in Windsor Great Park, a remarkable 15 years after they divorced.

But the revelation demonstrates the continuing closeness of their relationship despite a string of scandals. In the mid-1990s, towards the end of her marriage to the prince, Sarah had built up an overdraft of almost £5million with the Queen’s bank Coutts, due to her profligate spending.

After news of her debts emerged she went out to work securing lucrative speaking contracts with companies including WeightWatchers in the U.S.

She went on to clear her debts but in subsequent years, unable to curb her spending, Fergie found herself in the red once more. Last year she was caught by a tabloid newspaper demanding £500,000 from a bogus businessman to set up a meeting with the prince, a UK trade ambassador.

The sting exposed how deeply Sarah was in debt following the collapse of her U.S. lifestyle company and she has since been working largely in America in order to pay back her many creditors.

The duchess also discussed in the Hello! interview how Princess Beatrice has been taking advice from a stylist after the striking hat she wore to the Royal Wedding in April was widely mocked.

To help out her daughter, the duchess has enlisted Charlie Anderson, who is used by Harry Potter star Emma Watson, at a cost of £1,500 a day.

Princess Beatrice’s striking fascinator was compared to a Star Trek weapon, a cat flap and a lavatory seat by internet pranksters.

A Facebook site entitled Princess Beatrice’s Ridiculous Royal Wedding Hat attracted more than 100,000 visitors. One asked whether she was a new Doctor Who villain.

The duchess admitted she felt guilty after the 22-year-old princess’s Philip Treacy hat was criticised.

Sarah told Hello!: ‘After the wedding hat thing, I realised that I wasn’t there enough to go around the shops, so I pulled in the help of stylist Charlie Anderson for a few weeks.

‘I think it is important that Beatrice doesn’t get labelled as having a stylist because she doesn’t have one. She has done it all herself and has immaculate good taste but she was working so hard to get her 2:1 degree that she didn’t have time to go shopping.’

Princess Beatrice later sold the item on auction site eBay for £81,100. The proceeds went to charities Unicef and Children in Crisis.

Penny Lancaster teamed the dress with a pretty crocheted scarf

As all mothers know, looking after two young children is not easy. But Penny Lancaster appears to be coping remarkably well.

The 40-year-old seemed radiant when she was spotted on holiday with her husband, Rod Stewart, with whom she has two sons, Alastair, five, and Aiden, five months.

Model Miss Lancaster appeared tanned and healthy as she walked barefoot through Portovenere, Italy, with her 66-year-old husband.

Italy is a country close to the pair’s hearts, as they married in the northern fishing village of Portofino in June 2007.

Stewart, who has six other children from previous relationships, said recently: ‘Before we decided to have Aiden, I said to Penny, “Look, I’m not getting any younger.

'I can’t be getting up two or three times at night. I can’t do 3am. Those days are gone”.

‘And she said, “No, I’ll do all that. You need your sleep, you old fella”. Penny has been wonderful.’

‘Penny has been wonderful. She has brought warmth and comfort to my life.

'There is a commitment and honesty - everything you can imagine you would want a relationship to be.

‘It’s taken me quite a long time for me to get in a position of complete happiness with my partner.

‘Penny says I’ve changed. She says I don’t fly off the handle like I used to.

'I don’t walk out and slam doors. And I want to make conversation. I used to be a bit of a hot head.’

Stewart and Lancaster married five years ago, but they have been together for 12 years - his longest relationship.

His former wives were models Alana Stewart and Rachel Hunter. Stewart also dated actress Britt Ekland and model Kelly Emberg.

Asked what he knows about women and relationships, Stewart replies: ‘I’m still learning. You never stop.'

Liz Jones after surgery

It was a Eureka! moment. A revelation. It was as though my entire belief system, my daily rituals, had been shattered. I felt exactly as a five-year-old might upon being told that Father Christmas does not exist, or the Archbishop of Canterbury upon being shown incontrovertible proof there is no God. I felt betrayed and duped.

It happened as I sat in my cosmetic surgeon’s consulting room at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in North London in March this year.

I was firing questions at Alex Karidis, a world-renowned surgeon and a man who has spent decades transforming the faces of the rich and the famous, as well as helping the disfigured and the injured.

The anti-ageing creams on which I have spent thousands of pounds (at this point I was spending £400 a month), I was told, would never help me look younger.

I was about to undergo cosmetic surgery. These were the procedures on the clipboard in front of me that the surgeon would be performing later that afternoon.

First, a general anaesthetic. Next, blepharoplasty, which meant the puffy flesh beneath my eyes would be excised, as well as the arc of crevasses beneath, which never did respond to YSL’s Touche Eclat concealer.

Dermaroller would follow, involving thousands of tiny holes being made in the skin around my mouth. Blood taken from my arm would then be injected into these holes. My skin, thinking  it is under attack, which it most definitely is, would be stimulated into producing that all-important plumping collagen — the stuff that makes our skin look youthful, but production of which falls off, particularly after the menopause.

And finally a full facelift, which would involve incisions behind my ears, snaking several inches up into my hair, as well as incisions inside my ears, a thought that made me feel faint.

My face was to be pulled up, rectifying the hamster pockets that had collected the fat fallen from my cheeks, and the turkey wobble beneath my chin. A few weeks later I would have Botox injected into my forehead and filler injected into any remaining Mel Gibson tramlines running from nose to mouth.

The surgery should last a decade, the Botox and filler lasting anything up to six months.

‘Your heart-shaped face and jawline will return,’ Mr Karidis told me reassuringly, cupping my face in his hands, forcing me to look in a mirror as he did so.

My bare face was in the unrelenting glare of the spring sunshine. When his hands fell away and I saw my face drop, the dire warnings on the consent form — that I might die under the anaesthetic, that my eyes might droop, my sight might be permanently blurred, my hair fall out, my face feel permanently numb — paled in comparison to the stark reality of my 52-year-old face staring back at me, sad and undeniably old.

My main emotion at this point was one of shock, but also that it was all so unfair! How on earth did this happen to me?

Why, I’d asked him almost in tears, has my face fallen? Why do my eyes resemble those of a wrinkly Shar Pei puppy? Why are my lips so thin and mean-looking when I have spent a lifetime plastering my skin with expensive unguents?

And so, just hours before my major surgery was due to begin, came the moment when the likes of Clarins and Revive and Zelens and Dr Hauschka — my gods — were condemned as mere mirages.

‘Skin creams will not have made any difference,’ my surgeon told me. ‘The only thing you can do for your skin is stay out of the sun, not smoke or drink alcohol, and pray your parents gave you good genes.

‘No cream is capable of lifting this … ’ he said, placing those cool hands on my drooping, melting face again.

I was shocked. Particularly as earlier this month a survey of 3,000 women found we spend more than £24,000 in a lifetime fighting wrinkles. Four in ten spent an average of £20 to £50 a month on wrinkle creams, although 45 per cent said they were unhappy with the results.

I have spent a great deal more than £24,000 on skincare products in my lifetime. I started very young with my addiction to, my adoration of, beauty products.

As a teenager I used Boots No7 creams, but by my early 20s I had already graduated to Clinique’s three-step cleanse, tone and moisturise regime (the yellow soap in its green drawer still makes me feel nostalgic for my youth).

As soon as I got a better job, I graduated to Clarins — an addiction that left me permanently broke and sometimes unable to afford food (my surgeon also told me good nutrition, and not being too thin, can only help our faces).

Over the years, the products I used became more and more expensive, culminating in the Revive range, developed by a surgeon who had worked with burns victims. I used its Lip Renewal Cream, £72, its Fluide Superbe for dry skin, £250, its Volumising Serum to plump my skin, £370, and its Blanche cream, £250.

I used to spend £400 a month on creams and facials and nothing worked.

If they had worked, I wouldn’t have been in need of a facelift. I wouldn’t have done this to myself. (I should add here that I have never smoked and I drink little. I’ve always drunk so much water I slosh as I walk.)

The beauty industry is remarkably inventive, even more seductive and clever than the fashion industry. And magazines and beauty journalists work far too closely with the big beauty brands.

If the feature you are reading now were to be published in a glossy women’s magazine, it would be suicidal: advertising revenue from the likes of L’Oreal and Chanel would plummet, just as the fat in my cheeks migrated south.

Elle has a piece in its August issue that backs up claims from the big beauty houses that ‘creams promise results to rival the surgeon’s knife’.

The beauty journalist writes: ‘Clinique’s Repairwear Laser Focus, a serum that targets sun damage and fine lines, promises results comparable to a laser treatment.’ Clinique’s Pore Refining Solutions range is billed as ‘an alternative to micro-dermabrasion’.

The article also proclaims: ‘Serums remain one of the most effective means of pushing active ingredients into the skin.’

It adds that a cream can be 70 per cent as effective in eradicating dark spots and red veins as IPL (Intense Pulse Light, which I also had about six weeks after my surgery to eradicate broken capillaries on my face, two patches of sun damage beneath my right eye and the tiny brown spots on my hands, which now look so weirdly old that I no longer place them anywhere near my new face).

According to Mr Karidis, and to the evidence writ large on my pre-surgery face that had never gone a day since my teens without being protected by the best products on the market, this is all nonsense.

But the magazine insists sternly: ‘The right skincare regime is essential.’

Of course it is. I mustn’t slap my forehead with my wrinkly old hand, as I need to avoid disturbing the Botox currently lurking there, neatly preventing me from frowning at the glossy pages.

The magazine helpfully gives us a shopping list: Pore Refining Solutions Correcting Serum, £36.50, by Clinique. Regenessence Youth Regeneration Serum, £85, by Giorgio Armani. Hydra Life Skin Perfect, £48, by Dior. Pores No More Pore Refiner, £39, by Dr Brandt. The list goes on and on and on.

Finally, the magazine also asserts that if you must have surgery, then there is a battery of products you simply must buy — containing marine extracts, algaes for lifting and tightening, peptide complexes — to use religiously after your procedure.

When the bandages (and the scales) are finally lifted from my eyes three days after surgery, I put this next question to my surgeon.

What should I use now to make sure it doesn’t all happen again?

To make sure that all the pain and the nausea (I react very badly to general anaesthetic, and had thrown up for days after surgery) were worth it?

Again, Mr Karidis disabuses me of my belief system. ‘The only thing I want you to do after surgery is to wear a factor 50 sun block and to smile more often! Stress and too much exercise add years to your face.’

So, I’ve become less precious. I always wear SPF 50 and use Ren skincare products, which are much cheaper, and have gone back to Boots’ own-brand creams, which, funnily enough, is where I started.

Yes, of course we want to age differently to the way our mothers and grandmothers did; my mum had false teeth by the time she was 50. But the beauty industry has gone too far, promising us something it can never deliver: youth in a jar.

I now have the words of my cosmetic surgeon ringing in my ears whenever I drift through Selfridges’ seductive beauty halls, surely the cathedrals of our age.

What a much more enjoyable life I would have had, how much richer I’d be now and how much happier in my own skin if I had known then what I know now: stay out of the sun and try to smile every day.

Amy Winehouse drank herself to death

Amy Winehouse drank herself to death alone only a day after meeting her mother for lunch and telling her: ‘I love you, Mum.’

The multi-millionaire singer had repeatedly tried but failed to overcome her addiction to alcohol, particularly vodka, and drugs.

Miss Winehouse, 27, was found at her North London home by a bodyguard on Saturday afternoon.

She was believed to be ‘devastated’ after splitting up with her on-off boyfriend, film director Reg Traviss, who was seen outside her home hours after her body was discovered.

Her family will be given the results of a post-mortem examination today which will finally allow them to bury her.

It has been claimed she had bought drugs the night before her death but a preliminary police investigation has shown no drug paraphernalia was found at Miss Winehouse’s £2.5million home.

Police sources have indicated she died following a drink binge.

Asked about the circumstances of Miss Winehouse's death, her PR spokesperson Chris Goodman told The Sun: 'Amy was on her own at home apart from a security guard who we had appointed to help look after he over the past couple of years.

'She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to skeep and when he went to wake her he found she wasn't breathing.

'He called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no-one knows how she died. She died alone in bed.'

It was also claimed Miss Winehouse may have been dead for up to six hours before she was found by her security guard, Andrew Morris.

A source told the newspaper: 'Rigor mortis had set in, indiciating she is likely to have been dead for anything up to six hours.'

The singer had lunch with her mother Janis the day before she died. Mrs Winehouse believed her daughter’s death had been ‘only a matter of time’.

They had met in Camden and Mrs Winehouse said her daughter had ‘seemed weary, but that wasn’t particularly unusual as she always went to bed late. Her passing so suddenly still hasn’t hit me’.

As mother and daughter kissed on the doorstep of Miss Winehouse’s home, she said: ‘I love you, Mum.’

‘They are the words I will always treasure and always remember Amy by,’ said Mrs Winehouse, who lives in Enfield, North London.

Meanwhile, it has also been claimed Miss Winehouse had a medical examination by her doctor just hours before she died.

A source told The Sun: 'The doctor was happy with her condition. When he left on Friday night he had no concerns. Less than 24 hours later she was found dead.

'Amy's health has been very fragile and she has been having a series of check-ups.'

Yesterday, on the day Miss Winehouse should have been attending a barbecue at the Essex home of her uncle, tributes poured in.

One came from Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah, who wrote on Twitter: ‘At only 27 what a terrible waste of a great talent. Sincere condolences to her family.’

Others questioned whether she had been adequately supported by her management and record label, Island, which is owned by Universal, for her addictions.

On her secret Facebook page, where she used the name Shirley Baxter, the singer recently joked about her place being cemented in the drug-ridden North London scene, writing to a friend ‘Camden Forever’.

Miss Winehouse’s father Mitch, 60, flew to London from New York yesterday, where he had been due to perform at a series of jazz gigs. Looking stony faced, the former black cab driver landed at Heathrow Airport at 6.30am.

A close friend told the Daily Mail: ‘Mitch is being stoic for the family, but he is beating himself up, he was always by Amy’s side.’

Mr Winehouse said: ‘This isn’t real. I’m completely devastated. I’m coming home. I have to be with Amy. I can’t crack up for her sake. My family need me.’

In a statement, the singer’s family said: ‘Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister, niece. She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time.’

Only last month Miss Winehouse had checked out of the Priory Clinic following intensive treatment for her drinking and was given the all-clear to carry on with her comeback European tour. At the time, it was confirmed she would continue as an out-patient.

She then performed a seven-song set at the prestigious 100 Club in London in front of friends and family and was deemed to be ‘back on form’.

But weeks later she was booed off stage at a gig in Belgrade, Serbia, after giving a dazed performance and delivering barely recognisable versions of her hits. The tour was swiftly cancelled.

Following this debacle, Miss Winehouse kept a low profile. She spent most of her time with her close friend, Big Brother contestant Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, who told the Mail: ‘I’m absolutely distraught by the death of my dear friend Amy.

‘She was a loving, wonderful person with an enormous talent and big heart. Fragile but strong, beautiful but deep.

‘I will always remember her as the person she actually was, and not the way in she was often portrayed.’

Staff at the A Baia cafe on Camden Square claimed the singer had attempted to give up drinking in the weeks leading up to her death.

Owner Ze Silva said she would come in for fried breakfasts, adding: ‘She would always come here with her bodyguards and play pool, sometimes twice a day.

‘But in the last two, three weeks she didn’t drink. She said she had given up. She just had a Coca Cola. She told me, “I’m not drinking. Don’t give me anything to drink if I ask for it. I mustn’t have it”.’

Miss Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil will be ‘devastated’, according to his mother.

Fielder-Civil is currently in prison after being sentenced last month to 32 months for burglary and possession of an imitation firearm.

Talking to The Sun from prison, Fielder-Civil is quoted as saying he is 'beyond inconsolable' about his ex-wife's death, adding, 'My tears won't dry'.

He added: 'I will never ever again feel the love I felt for her. Everybody who knew me and Amy knew the depth of our love. I can't believe she's dead.'

And Fielder-Civil's girlfriend Sarah Aspin, who has a newborn son with him, said Miss Winehouse would be sorely missed,

She said: 'Blake is the father of our son. But I saw him and Amy together and I know they were really in love and were soulmates.

'She always loved him and he always loved her - but it was just never going to work. Basically they couldn't live with each other and they couldn't live without each other.

'It is hard for me knowing he still loved her, but I do understand his feelings.'

The couple married in Miami, Florida, in 2007 but divorced in 2009. He has long been blamed for bringing about her drugs downfall

Emma Bunton poses with her new son Tate in this photo from Hello magazine

Emma Bunton has told how she and fellow ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham have been swapping baby tips after becoming mums again just weeks apart.

The 35-year-old - once known as Baby Spice - gave birth to Tate Lee Jones in May.

‘As soon as we can possibly meet up, we will. But for the moment we’re making do with emails,’ Miss Bunton told Hello! magazine.

The singer lives in the UK while Mrs Beckham had her fourth child, daughter Harper Seven, two weeks ago in Los Angeles.

‘We’ve been swapping bits of advice and photos and sharing our excitement,’ added Miss Bunton, who also has a three-year-old son, Beau, with partner Jade Jones, 32.

The Dancing On Ice judge said she shares a strong bond with her former band mates – especially now they are all mothers.

‘The first bouquets through the door were from Victoria, Geri (Halliwell) and Mel C. They came with little notes and that is always special to me, to get those from the girls.

'The relationship we girls have will always be special. Now our kids are friends too and as they grow, it will be wonderful to watch them all and the different stages in their lives.'

Miss Bunton gave birth to Tate at London's Portland Hospital on May 6 and said she and Jones both sobbed when they held the 7lb bundle.

She said: 'Mum was busy snapping away with her camera and there is one shot of the three of us: Tate is in my arms and I have tears pouring down my face, Jade is kissing me and he's streaming with tears. It was very emotional!'

After originally announcing her pregnancy last November, the Dancing On Ice judge revealed in February she was expecting another boy with Jones.

And in January, the couple revealed they were engaged after 11 years together.

Miss Bunton has previously spoken of her fears she would never conceive after being diagnosed with endometriosis when she was 25.

She said while pregnant with Beau: 'I remember the doctor saying at the time, "Fifty per cent of women with endometriosis go on to have children." I thought, "Only 50 per cent..." It scared the life out of me. I was frightened.

'I've been so worried for such a long time that I might not be able to be a mum.'
