Kate looked demure in her primrose yellow silk, but we saw more of her endless legs than she intended

With a swish and a thunderous sigh of relief, the red velvet curtain falls on the end of the first week of the first official royal tour for the Duchess of Cambridge.

And so far, so very, very good. Most excellent work, your royal Sister of Pippa-ness.

Really, things could not have gone better. During her nine days in Canada, the Duchess did not squash any toddlers under her impeccable nude platforms, suffer a wardrobe malfunction nor flash any unfortunate boob-age at the grateful Canadian nation.

Agreed, there were a few blowy moments in cricket whites and primrose silk when we saw envious yardage of royal thigh and the merest glimpse of knickerdom. Yet after a few desperate tugs on the hem of her pretty summer dresses, duchessorial blushes were spared.

No circle-of-shame snaps in a glossy magazine for HRH Kate this week, thank you very much. Elsewhere, international incidents, diplomatic skirmishes, awkward moments when she fled to the airport clutching her passport, trying to buy a one-way ticket to Monaco? All avoided.

Feathers ruffled? None. Terrifying polar bear rugs encountered? One. Trees planted, ditto. Posies accepted from little children in that official low crouch, knees together, side swivel position invented and patented by Diana, Princess of Wales? At least two.

Gifts amassed so far? One diamond polar bear brooch, one red fleece Ranger hoodie, one pair of beaded moccasins, plus one traditional Calgary wide-brimmed, Smithbilt cowboy hat.

A pretty good haul. Better than anything at Bicester shopping village, that’s for sure. Check out the quality of those diamonds. Pippa will die!

And whether at a ceremony of remembrance, whisking up canapes in a kitchen, paddling a dragon boat or smoking caribou skins on a reservation, the Duchess was endlessly sunny.

She can do sombre, she can do formal, she can do parsley garnishes. When required, she can stick her oar in with the best of them and can do campfire geniality along with genteel cocktail chat at the ambassador’s residence. In fact, she can do no wrong.

Yes, there was one tiny difficulty, as the Duchess swished from civic reception to official dinner, her excellent Middleton legs sheathed and twinkling in standard royal issue high-gloss tights. Exactly who was that dull guy with the bald patch and old man’s blazer who kept doggedly following her around? Could someone call security, please?

When visiting a provincial Canadian town, it takes some doing to come across as the least groovy bloke in the boondocks. In such circumstances, however, you can bet your anchor-stamped brass buttons that a Windsor man will always triumph.

No one can out-anorak a royal anorak, especially when he’s trying to do smart-casual in a canoe.

Cast adrift in the stardust of his wife’s slipstream, there were moments when Prince William seemed like some plodding member of the protection squad intent on invading her personal space and getting his mug in the official photographs.

Without her, who would turn out to see him? Perhaps no one, except a lost moose or two and a few ladies from the crochet club at a loose end on a weekday afternoon.

Yet to see the young Duke and Duchess stand shoulder to shoulder, meeting officials, consoling the survivors of a devastating forest fire or cheerfully shaking hands with the Canadian crowds is to understand the eternal potency of beauty.

Being married to a lovely woman like Kate gives a man like William prestige and cachet. By her side, he instantly looks more handsome, debonair and assured. And not only does she make him look good, she also humanises and glamorises the entire Windsor brand.

Look at Kate on Canada Day in the Canadian capital, attending a Canadian citizenship ceremony wearing the Canadian national colours, accessorised by a hat fluttering with maple leaves (the Canadian emblem) and a maple leaf diamond brooch.

She couldn’t have tried harder if she had donned buckskins, flung herself at the feet of the Governor General and begged to be called Squaw Who Dances With Willie.

Her red and white ensemble may have been more national costume than elegant outfit, it may have been slightly de trop, but it was utterly charming.

And it proved yet again that the Duchess is a class act; a woman with an inbuilt sense of duty, a representative of the monarchy who knows and understands what is expected of her.

Unlike other royal wives, such as the Duchess of York for ghastly example, the D of C realises that despite all the attention and endless interest in her Erdem dresses and choice of handbag, it is not all about her.

Instead, she fully grasps she is not just a support to her husband, but also a kind of cipher, an agreeable, British and royal symbol upon which entire nations can project their feelings of goodwill and benevolence.

The baton has been handed to a newly minted royal couple upon whose shoulders the entire future of the House of Windsor depends. Be serious. Who else is capable of appearing on the world stage on behalf of Queen and country, exuding that tricky mix of gravitas, charm and sincerity that the post requires?

Prince Harry and his latest chick, lingerie model Flossy Boomps-adaisy-Boops and her fruity selection of balcony bras? Those galumphing horrors Beatrice and Eugenie in matching ostrich feather comedy hats?

Shop-soiled Prince Andrew or sulky Prince Charles? I don’t think so. Not for a second. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are our last hope.

So back home, the Queen will have been watching with great interest how this tour develops.

With an experienced eye, she will be appraising the performance of her grandson and his dazzling new wife, praying that the mistakes and hysteria of the Diana era are not to be repeated. Will HM be pleased? I suspect she will be absolutely thrilled.

On THE most basic level, you have got to admit Kate looks great. From sea to shining sea, the Duchess has been working her classically elegant, faultlessly neat, sexy secretary look to great effect.

She has shimmered in purple silk, dazzled in navy lace, worn a dress the colour of a beige envelope and given it a first-class stamp.

And while frying onions in a chef’s jacket or scrambling into a seaplane in her favourite J Brand jeans, what was much more important was the fact there was no mistaking the frighteningly fierce delight she takes in her new-found royal chores.

In the Northwest Territory, the Duchess visited community projects with unbridled enthusiasm.

At Yellowknife, she was presented with a hockey stick and looked at it with something approaching ecstasy.

While meeting dignitaries, ordinary folks or uncomprehending babies, her all-weather smile never dims — those dimples could be drilled into the bone.

That perma rictus of bleached gnashers, semaphoring a bedazzled delight at her own good fortune to the world, is becoming an infectious trademark.

The toughest test was saved for the last day, when the couple had to attend the Calgary Stampede and try to remain regal in cowpoke attire. They glowed pinkly beneath their matching ten-gallon rabbit fur hats.

Our girl managed to look fascinated by a lot of cows milling around and pawing the ground. Just like the polo crowds at Windsor, really.

Canada has fallen for her charms, California is next and the triumphant Duchess of Cambridge seems an irresistible and unstoppable royal force.

The Windsors — and us — could do with a high-wattage dose of uncomplicated, affable, natural charisma.

So long may the old Duch reign — and let’s hope royal life does nothing to curdle her bottomless charm.

Beyonce showcases her trimmed down figure in bridal lingerie in romantic new video

She never released any images from her top-secret wedding to Jay-Z, but Beyonce has given fans an idea of what her wedding day may have looked like.

The singer plays a bride-to-be wearing sexy bridal lingerie in the video for her latest single Best Thing I Never Had, remembering a past lover who let her get away.

As she sings about the man who wronged her, the 29-year-old strides around her bedroom in a sheer white number complete with a corset lace-up back, suspenders and garter.

With her hair pulled back in two tight buns, the singer writhes on the bed before placing her elaborate veil and tiara on her head.

The enormous tiara is the first hint at a Gypsy-style wedding outfit, and Beyonce doesn't disappoint, appearing in the next scene in an over-the-top dress.

Looking more than a little like Maria von Trapp as she sings atop a hill, she wears a strapless and heavily embellished ivory and gold gown with a full satin skirt that rivalled the infamous brides from the channel four series.

As she prepares to walk down the aisle to meet her prince, Beyonce flashes back to her prom in 1998, with a home video showing her and the former lover she sings about.

A brunette Beyonce, wearing a purple mini dress, excitedly walks into her prom clutching a disinterested-looking date.

But her smiles soon turn to a frown when her boyfriend ditches her on the dance floor for another girl.

In present day, Beyonce walks down the aisle and marries the man who did treat her right, in a beautiful sunset ceremony.

The couple are cheered by their friends and family as they leave the ceremony as man and wife, and head to the reception.

Beyonce changes into a different gown, this one white and sleek, for the party, where her groom takes off her garter with his teeth.

No pictures were ever released of Beyonce and Jay-Z's wedding, which took place under a shroud of secrecy at their apartment in New York on April 4, 2008.

There was never an official confirmation of the nuptials which were attended only by close family and friends, including Beyonce's Destiny's Child band mates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, and the couple's good friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

Speaking to Piers Morgan after her Glastonbury gig last month, the Grammy-winner revealed that she has babies on the mind. In a rare candid moment, she said: 'I always said I was going to have a baby at 30. I'm 29 now.'

Sartorial slip: Is this the dress Kate will be wearing to the Bafta party in LA?

Her Royal tour wardrobe has been the source of endless fascination as the world waits to see what the Duchess of Cambridge will wear next.

But when it comes to a certain upcoming black-tie event, it looks as though she may have given the game away.

While Canadian soldiers loaded suitcases onto the Royal plane in Yellowknife on Wednesday, one held up a clear garment bag revealing a full-length gown that belongs to Kate.

The evening dress will no doubt be worn at the Bafta party in Hollywood Dress rehearsal: Kate's dress in a see-through garment bag the only black-tie event the couple will be attending.

The nude pleated chiffon gown is typical of Kate's style and similar to the Jenny Packham design she wore for the ARK charity dinner in London last month, though without any intricate beading.

Also visible in the garment bag is the reverse side of a belt that will probably feature embellishment to brighten up it up.

Although it was rumoured Kate would be wearing Victoria Beckham for the event, the dress in the bag doesn't appear to be from any of the designer's pret-a-porter collections.

The BAFTA dinner is just one of the events that has Hollwyood in a frenzy for the couple's three-day visit.

Held at the opulent Belasco Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, guests are set to include Barbra Streisand, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Tom Hanks.

The privilege of an intimate setting with the Duke and Duchess - and 300 A-listers - will set guests back £16,000, the cost of a table.

The Royal tour ends on Sunday.

Cheryl Cole faces her demons and flies back to Los Angeles - with moral support from Kimberley Walsh

She had kept a low profile to lick her wounds since she fled America following her shock sacking from the X Factor USA - but now Cheryl Cole has sensationally flown back to the States with Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh.

The girls were seen arriving at Los Angeles LAX airport last night and Cheryl had a massive smile on her face.

The defiant 28-year-old star was looking gorgeous in a Mongolian lamb waistcoat, jeans, black sandals and a blue T-shirt which she'd accessorised with a mushroom coloured handbag and beautiful big tortoiseshell sunglasses.

Kimberley, 29, meanwhile was in a multi-coloured print catsuit with a white belt and cream leather jacket, tan sandals and big black sunglasses.

As to the nature of girls' trip and whether it's business or pleasure, Cheryl's spokesperson told Mail Online: 'Cheryl is taking some time out as she said on her website last month.'

However, it's possible she could be househunting.

It was rumoured earlier this week that Cheryl has made a list of demands to ex Ashley Cole, 30, before they get back together.

It included a new family home - as well as an LA 'lovenest'.

However, Ashley remained in Britain as he is back in training at his football club Chelsea.

He returned to work with his teammates at the club's training ground in Cobham on Wednesday.

Cheryl was left humiliated when she was sacked from the U.S. version of the X Factor in May after just two weeks as a judge.

She was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger, who had been due to be a co-host on the series with Welsh hunk Steve Jones.

Producers were concerned her Geordie accent would be too difficult for an American audience to understand.

The devastated star immediately fled the States and hid out for weeks as she recovered.

She was so furious with show boss Simon Cowell that she even turned down the chance to return to the UK version.

Since her sacking, she disappeared from public view, and only emerged again last week with a brand new lighter bobbed hairstyle.

And myriad rumours have swirled this week surrounding her apparently rekindled romance with ex Ashley after they made a public display of affection at her 28th birthday in London last Friday.

Some reports say they're back together on Cheryl's condition that her mother Joan Callaghan is allowed to move back in with them, whereas other say he's banned her as he blamed the marriage breakdown on her constant presence.

Cheryl and Ashley are rumoured to be in the process of setting up home again together again in the £6million mansion they once shared in Hurtmore, Surrey.

Chelsea player Cole, 30, was awarded the house after their divorce was finalised in October, while his former wife moved into a rented home in Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire.

It's said that the Promise This star has also asked the England star to ditch his friends, who she deems as a bad influence, and has ordered that he check in with her twice a day on his mobile so she can keep track of his whereabouts.

Cheryl, who divorced cheating Ashley last September, is also said to want a top of the range recording studio, a secret exotic wedding, a luxury honeymoon, a ring 'that can be seen from outer space'.

Royal couple touch down in LA with a splash of red, white and blue as America prepares for Kate-mania

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touched down in California today for a whirlwind tour of the golden state.

William and Kate flew into Los Angeles on the back of a successful tour of Canada - their first official overseas visit as a married couple.

The newly-weds have a busy schedule ahead of them in the US, which will take them from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the poverty of Skid Row.

They are likely to be met with enthusiastic crowds wherever they go.

Kate, who stepped out clutching a red, white and blue bouquet, wore a lavender dress from London-based designer Roksanda.

The Prince wore a more formal blue suit.

In a bid to protect their privacy, police have enacted strict anti-trespassing measures to ensure that the city's notoriously keen paparazzi are kept at a distance.

Speaking shortly ahead of their arrival, Sir Nigel Sheinwald, Britain's ambassador to the US, said: 'They have had a fantastically successful trip to Canada and they will have a great welcome in California.

'They will meet a huge range of people from the governor to people working in the projects of Skid Row. They will get a good snapshot of life in this part of California.'

As expected, security was incredibly strict as the press were subjected to body scans before being allowed access to the Tarmac.

Los Angeles police officers, CHP, sniffer dogs and private security details all kept a close watch on the 115 reporters who were gathered about 20 feet away from where the plane landed.

Simon Cowell's ex-girlfriend, Teri Seymour, was one of the excited reporters waiting to catch a glimpse of the royals as she talked on camera for US entertainment show, Extra.

As the group of 15 dignitaries came to meet the large grey plane embossed with the Canadian flag, the airport employees had trouble getting the stairs to attach to the door of the plane.

A motorcade of security gathered by the plane including CHP, police bikes and CIA agents in suits, dark sunglasses driving Range Rovers and black suburbans.

After a brief delay adjusting the ladder, William and Kate walked down to meet the dignitaries on the tarmac. She wore a light grey chiffon dress and was given a bouquet of red, white and blue roses by the governors wife.

Governor Jerry Brown told the Prince 'Welcome to California.'

After a few minutes of polite conversation they both got into the waiting black Range Rover and were escorted away by the waiting security patrol.

There was near hysterical screaming outside Los Angeles's historic Beverly Hilton Hotel as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived for a new media summit straight from LAX.

Wearing a lavender Peridot dress by Serbian-born designer Roksanda Illinic, Kate remained unfazed by the media frenzy surrounding her Stateside arrival with William.

The couple were met by Neil Stiles, president of the entertainment magazine group Variety who jointly sponsored the Venture Capital New Media Summit with the UK Trade and Investment to promote British technological business interests in America.

After meeting delegates from the British and American technology sectors, William and Kate then took to the stage to become a part of the summit.

They did their best not to look bored as the summit chairs discussed the development of Tech City, the UK's answer to Silicon Valley, which is based in the Shoreditch and Old Street areas of East London.

On the panel were Shawn Colo, co founder of award-winning digital publishing business Demand Media and Ankur Shah, co founder of Techlightenment, a company which specialises in social media technology.

Other delegates included Matt Jacobson, head of market development at Facebook and Judah Schiller, founder and CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, the advertising firm.

The couple were then treated to a series of practical demonstrations of how technology is transforming our everyday lives.

The purpose of the trip is threefold - to promote British business, strengthen cultural ties and push forward causes close to William's heart.

The first engagement of the trip will be a UK Trade and Investment reception featuring technology experts from both sides of the Atlantic.

A key aim of the event is to generate support for Tech City, the area around Old Street in east London which is fast becoming a major base for innovative internet firms and software companies.

Other highlights will include a charity polo event in aid of the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry and a glitzy Bafta black-tie reception during which the Duke and Duchess will promote British creative talent.

In contrast to the high society events, the royal couple will also go to Skid Row to see how a community arts organisation is helping youngsters in the socially deprived area of down town LA.

Inner-City Arts uses visual arts and performance to give homeless and poverty-hit youngsters a creative outlet.

The royal couple's final event before jetting back to the UK will see them attend a jobs fair at Sony Pictures Studio staged by Service Nation: Mission Serve.

The body is an umbrella organisation set up by the US government which brings together different service charities to support the re-integration of servicemen and women into civvy street.

Imogen Thomas flaunts her curves in tight purple frock while Stacey Giggs keeps things causal for shopping trip

They may have a famous footballer in common but Imogen Thomas and Stacey Giggs showed off too very different styles today.

While the former Big Brother dressed to impress for a business meeting in a tight and bright purple frock, Stacey stepped out looking casual on a trip to the shops in Manchester.

Imogen, 28, showed off her curves in the tight-fitting lilac dress which she teamed with a pair of high black heels with bow detail.

The model added a pair of silver aviators and an oversized weaved black handbag as she made left her home in North London heading to a business meeting.

Imogen tweeted and said: ‘I’m looking forward to meeting some great people today ;-)’

And it seems that the Big Brother star has some acting work lined up as she later posted: ‘Reading over a script whilst eating pita souvlaki chicken! Ohhh yuuum!!! :-)’

Meanwhile up in Manchester earlier today Ryan Giggs’ wife Stacey was spotted shopping in Manchester City Centre in a pair of leggings and a black vest showing off her dark tan from her recent holiday with her family.

On her arm Stacey carried an oversized cream Balenciaga bag and donned a pair of brown boots for her shopping expedition.

The 32-year-old stocked up on beauty products at Space NK before she was picked up by her footballer husband.

The couple have recently returned from a holiday in Majorca where they fled to, to work on their marriage after revelations emerged about his serial infidelities.

Friends say, however, that she has told the multi-millionaire she will give him one ‘last chance’ following his alleged affairs with glamour model Imogen Thomas and his brother Rhodri’s wife Natasha.

‘She has not given him an easy ride and he will need to prove to her he will never cheat on her again,’ said one. ‘Some women may be amazed that

Stacey has forgiven him for what he has done, but she loves him and can’t face life without him.’

Maria Fowler is on red alert after fake tanning disaster

One of the pros of fake tan is acquiring a glow without the danger of burning.

But as she left an Essex beauty salon after a spray tanning session today, Maria Fowler looked like she was more sunburnt than bronzed.

The Only Way Is Essex star visited the cast's favourite salon Belles and Beaus in Buckhurst Hill to get an all-over spray tan for her weekend.

Wearing a blue and white sundress, the 25-year-old looked like she was suffering from painful sunburn.

Despite her alarming skintone, it appears the Page 3 girl was happy with her colour and boasted about how dark she likes to be.

She Tweeted: 'Just had an amazing dark tan haha. Belles & beaus know how dark us girls in Essex like to be!!!! Lol x.'

Ahead of her tanning session, manicure and pedicure, Fowler admitted she was unamused to have been photographed without her make-up.

She wrote on her Twitter page: 'Wearing a short flimsy dress on a very windy day #FAIL.

'And then I find out I get pictured in this state with no makeup on #EPICFAIL.'

Fowler was getting pampered ahead of a busy weekend - attending the Duke Of Essex Polo on Saturday, before heading to Weston-Super-Mare for the T4 On The Beach festival on Sunday.

During the weekend, Fowler is planning on spending lots of time with close friend Lauren Pope, who is nursing a broken heart following her recent split from Kirk Norcross.

However, Fowler herself has hinted of new developments in her lovelife on her Twitter.

She admitted today she decided against going to a Loaded magazine party so she could have 'a quiet one with a nice boy'.

When asked by TOWIE co-star Ellie Redman if she knew the mystery man in question, Fowler revealed he was a mutual acquaintance.

Will Smith reveals his action hero muscles as he treats A-list brood to luxury holiday in Hawaii

It did not look like superstar actor Will Smith needed to lose Seven Pounds as he enjoyed a tropical holiday with his kids.

The Men In Black star was in great shape as he splashed around with son Jayden and daughter Willow on the paradise island of Hawaii.

The Philadelphia-born 42-year-old donned a pair of calf-length blue swimming shorts as he enjoyed the sunshine.

The Fresh Prince lapped up the chance to spend some quality time with his kids after an intense period of filming.

A holidaymaker said: 'It is hard to believe Will is 42, as he looks in almost as good shape as he did in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

'It was great to see him having fun with his kids, and they look like such a close family.'

Karate Kid Jaden, 13, loved playing on the beach, and got a good workout as he mucked around with other children.

Pint-sized singing star Willow, 10, preferred to laze around away from the action and pick up music tips from rapper Will.

Will was enjoying a well-earned break after he finished filming for the latest part of the Men In Black series this month.

He had been in New York since February recording scenes for the franchise's third movie along with fellow MIB veteran Tommy Lee Jones.

Movie insiders are expecting it to be a huge hit when it is released next year.

And there was more good for fans of Big Willie this month, as Transformers director Michael Bay said he is wants to direct another entry to the Bad Boys series.

He said: 'We talk about Bad Boys 3. It's hard to get our schedules together but it's great working with those guys.'

The film will see Will team up again with Big Momma's House star Martin Lawrence as hip Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.
