Having lent her voice to the successful animated feature Hoodwinked, actor Anne Hathaway is back to voicing — this time as a macaw character Jewel in Rio.

However, what is drawing headlines is the dimpled beauty’s big screen singing debut in the movie.“That morning I had
an extra cup of coffee to steel my nerves… singing in front of Sergio and Will.I.Am — I’m sure you can imagine,” she says.

“Rio has a totally modern sound and it was amazing to experience this coming together of styles to create a new kind of ‘fusion music’,” says the 28-year-old.

Hathaway reveals she loves to lend her voice for animated ventures. “It’s always been such an honour. I did The Simpsons and now Anna Hathawaythis,” says Hathaway, who was this year’s Academy Awards co-host alongside James Franco. Throwing light on her character, the actor says, “Jewel is fiercely independent and hates the idea of being stuck in a contained environment.  She rejects having any kind of limitations put on her. Being the last of her kind has made Jewel a survivor and she wants to keep it that way.”

Talking about the movie, she adds, “Rio is all about getting out of your own way and pushing expectations aside — of being in the moment and letting yourself fly."

India at Cannes Film Festival

The French Riveria is all set for some Bollywood action.  At the 64th Cannes International Film Festival that starts on May 11, actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 37, Freida Pinto, 26, Mallika Sherawat, 32, and Sonam Kapoor, 25, will walk the red carpet.  While Aishwarya will be making her te
nth appearance at the festival, Sonam will be making her debut. “This is my first time at Cannes and I’m sure it’ll be even more magical than what people say about it. I can’t wait to be on that red carpet!,” gushed Sonam, who like Aishwarya and Freida, will be representing beauty label L’Oreal.

It may be recalled that Sonam was dropped from the Cannes red carpet guest list in 2009, and it was reportedly at Aishwarya’s behest. Interestingly, the two actors will not come face-to-face during the festival. While Sonam will walk the red carpet on May 15, Aishwarya will be there for the opening and the gala party on May 11 and 12.

When asked if she’s excited about sharing the limelight with Aishwarya and Freida at Cannes, Sonam says, “All of the women are exceptionally beautiful and I’m quite glad to be a part of this group. But, I’m most looking forward to meeting Diane Kruger (Hollywood actor).”

Aishwarya, in turn, says she’s happy for both Freida and Sonam. “Several countries have always had more than one spokeswoman at Cannes and I’m glad India is finally getting the same recognition,” she says, adding, “I am happy that they are both invited.” Freida, too, is super excited. “It’s every actor’s dream to attend this festival,” she says.
