George Michael no longer making bid for early release from prison

Singer-songwriter George Michael is no longer making an appeal for an early release from prison.

Michael, 47, had hired lawyers to get him out of Pentonville just three days into his eight-week prison sentence for drug driving.

But they cancelled an application for him to be released on bail pending a full-scale appeal against the sentence, and he is now likely to serve half his sentence before he is freed.

The singer had been due to appear via videolink for a conference with his lawyers before a bail hearing at Blackfriars Crown Court, London.

A clerk for his barrister, Mukul Chawla QC, confirmed the hearing had been pencilled in the lawyer's diary.

"It was in the diary, but now there's nothing in his diary today," the Daily Star quoted the clerk as saying.

A court spokesman added: "It's been cancelled completely. There are no new dates for the hearing."

Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle Gets Engaged

Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle is set to walk down the aisle with NFL footballer Jason Bell after he proposed to her in Los Angeles last week.

Asked by presenter Scott Mills during an appearance on British station Radio 1 if she was wearing an engagement ring, she said: "Yes that is an engagement ring. It happened last week."

"It happened in Los Angeles. He was really nice about it. He got down on two knees, not one knee because he had played football for a while so he was all banged up. It was different! It was really, really nice. He's probably dying now," she said.

"I just got back from London and he was in New York and he surprised me with a ring and stuff, while I was in my pyjamas! If I had known I would have had a blow-dry or at least had a manicure or something!" she added.

Femalefirst.co.uk reports that before getting into a relationship with Bell, the 25-year-old pop star dated several famous men, including " Desperate Housewives" star Jesse Metcalfe and Northern Irish soccer player Neil McCafferty.

Kylie Minogue had heavenly childhood

Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue  feels grateful for her "heavenly" childhood because after signing up as an ambassador for a kids' charity she realised the hell some youngsters experience in their youth.

The " Spinning Around" hitmaker is a long-term spokeswoman for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) here and her work with the charity has made her aware of how blissful her formative years were in Melbourne, Australia, reports contact music.

"I have been one of their ambassadors - a very proud one - since 2003. The work they do is incredible. In comparison to some of the stories they deal with, I feel like I fell from heaven with the childhood I had," she said.

"I will give any help that I can to raise awareness - especially for the NSPCC helpline - that is just so important for people to know about," she added.

Susan Boyle sings for Pope

Singer Susan Boyle's dream of singing in front of the Pope came true after she marked the end of his open-air mass in Scotland Thursday.

People.com reports that around 65,000 people attended the ceremony in Bellahouston Park. Boyle performed three songs as part of a special mass to celebrate Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Scotland.

Dressed in a long black coat and black heels, Boyle sang "I Dreamed a Dream" and hymn "How Great Thou Art". Some of the people were so inspired that they also sang along with her.

"It's something I've always dreamed of, it's something I've always wanted to do, and here I am, finally getting the chance," said Boyle.

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp get romantic in "The Tourist"

They spent the summer together in two of the World's most romantic countries, Italy and France, shooting the movie.
And now a trailer has been released for the highly anticipated new action film The Tourist starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.
The short preview of the film shows the two stars getting up close and personal on several occasions suggesting the film might have a very 'Mr and Mrs Smith feel'.
The movie, directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, is about Frank Taylor (Depp), an American tourist visiting Italy to help mend his broken heart.
He meets Elise (Jolie), an extraordinary woman who, it transpires, crossed his path deliberately.
The two become involved in a mysterious series of events that push them closer and closer together.

The film also stars Paul Bettany and Timothy Dalton.
Angelina sparked fury among the fans of Patricia Cornwell's bestselling crime novels by being chosen to play its heroine Kay Scarpetta.
Many complained that the stunning 35-year-old actress is 'too glamorous' and 'exotic' looking to play the screen version of the medical examiner.
The character in 17 best selling books is a petite, middle-aged woman with short blonde hair - much like the 53-year-old author herself.

Pregnant Penny Lancaster is a breakfast TV revelation

TV viewers may well have been expecting to see a little more of Penny Lancaster. After all, she is four-and-a-half months pregnant.
But perhaps not quite this much.
Miss Lancaster, 39, a former underwear model, spoke about her struggle to have a second child with the 65-year-old rock singer.
They have a four-year-old son and have spent two years trying to conceive. Eventually they sought advice from fertility experts and began IVF.
Recalling the moment she learned of her pregnancy, she said: 'I couldn't believe it. I burst into tears. I called Rod when I was still sobbing. Rod said, "I'm in the middle of a restaurant in Russia, crying".'
The baby will be the singer's eighth child and is due in February, weeks after he celebrates his 66th birthday.
The former Ultimo model was dropped in 2004, to be replaced by Stewart's ex-wife Rachel Hunter, 41.

Meanwhile, during the interview on Radio 1, Nadine fuelled speculation of a rift with her Girls Aloud bandmates after claiming she hadn't received a phonecall from any of them.
Currently promoting her debut solo single Insatiable, the Northern Irish singer denied claims that her four bandmates had struggled to contact her via phone.
She said: 'My number hasn’t changed... we’ve not seen each other in a while.'
Her interview with Mills came after she admitted on an Irish chat show she had sent bandmate Cheryl Cole a text message when she was suffering from malaria, but hadn't received a reply.
When asked if Mrs Cole had been seriously ill, Coyle said: 'I don't know, I really don't know...

'I texted to make sure she was alright and everything, but I think she must have been busy or whatever.'

Coyle is set to release Insatiable on November 1 - just a week after Cole's new single Promise This.
Cole's track was played on the Chris Moyles Radio 1 breakfast show yesterday, but received mixed reviews from fans - and Coyle admitted she hadn't heard it yet.
Girls Aloud last performed together at a Coldplay gig a year ago after officially going on 'hiatus' 15 months ago to focus on their solo careers.
In an interview in the Spring, Nicola Roberts admitted she hadn't spoken to Coyle since last September.
The redhead told Hello!: 'If I'm really honest, we haven't spoken to Nadine since we did the Coldplay gig at Wembley in September. I talked to the other girls about it on Monday and no, none of us have heard from her.
A few months earlier, their bandmate Kimberley Walsh said the group was waiting for Coyle to return from LA so they could discuss the group's future.
She said: 'The plan is ... well, basically Nadine needs to come over from LA. We need to chat and book it in because there are five people's diaries to work around, rather than just one.'
In response, Coyle wrote on her Twitter page: 'Laughing at people suggesting I'm holding up GA. Really?? Let's be realistic. Open your eyes. It's made out like I have all the power.'

National Awards for 'Kutty Srank', Amitabh, Rituparno

New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) Malayalam film 'Kutty Srank' has got the National Award for best film while Amitabh Bachchan bags his third National Award for his performance in 'Paa', it was announced here Wednesday.

Rituparno Ghosh gets the National Award for best director for the film 'Abohoman', filmmaker Ramesh Sippy told journalists while announcing the 57th National Film Awards. The film also got Ananya Chatterjee the best actress award.

The blockbuster hit '3 Idiots', starring Aamir Khan, has been declared the most popular film providing wholesome entertainment.

Amitabh Bachchan has earlier won National Awards for 'Agneepath' and 'Black'.

Cheryl Cole in stunning video for new single Promise

It would be fair to say quite a lot has changed in Cheryl Cole's personal life since the release of her last record.

During that time, the 27-year-old has  been struck down by malaria and divorced her husband, footballer Ashley.

However, despite her woes, Mrs Cole has been determined to continue with her burgeoning music career.

In the aftermath of her marriage breakdown and as she recovered from her illness this summer, the singer headed to Los Angeles to continue work on the new record.

This morning, the new track, called Promise This, was aired for the first time on Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles’ breakfast programme.

Somewhat unsurprisingly it won rave reviews from her fans on the Internet. The new album will follow in November.

Now these photographs from the video for the new single have emerged.

They show Mrs Cole – with simply styled swept-back hair – as a ballerina as well as dancing with a mystery man dressed all in black.

The video was directed by Sophie Muller, who has worked with stars including Beyonce Knowles, Coldplay, Gwen Stefani and the Kings Of Leon.

The singer's ballet background harks back to her childhood when she won a sponsorship at the age of nine to study at the Royal Ballet Summer School in London.

Mrs Cole was granted her decree nisi from Chelsea and England footballer Ashley Cole at the beginning of this month.

The pair, who married in July 2006, separated in February after he was accused of cheating on her with a number of women.

She then contracted malaria following a trip to Tanzania in June.

The Girls Aloud star's first album 3 Words went to No1 last November as did her debut solo single Fight For This Love

An interesting news about Megan Fox right now is that Brian Austin Green with whom she married quietly in June this year faces scrutiny for having married so early.

Gwyneth Paltrow an alcoholic musician

Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow is all set to play an alcoholic musician in her new movie Country Strong. The 37-year-old actress who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, will play Kelly Canter in the new film about a faded country singer, reported Daily
Mail.

It's not the first time the Shakespeare In Love star has tried her hand at a music role - in 2000 she showed off her singing talents in Duets. However, Country Strong is Paltrow's first leading role since playing the daughter of a mathematician in the 2005 film Proof.

In her new film, which is set for release on January 7, Kelly Canter befriends up-and-coming singer songwriter Beau Williams, played by Garrett Hedlund, and the pair embark on a tour together, accompanied by Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, whose character is also looking to break into the music industry.

Mallika Sherawat makes a bikini comeback

After nearly two years in Hollywood, Mallika Sherawat has come back in Bollywood. The actor has started shooting for Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar’s Double Dhamaal (the sequel to the duo’s hit Dhamaal) in Pune. And guess what she was wearing in her first shot? A bikini, of course!

Is it the return of the sex symbol? Thakeria, who’s co-producing the film with Reliance Big Pictures laughs, “Mallika is paired with Sanjay Dutt and the first scene was by a pool in their house. Since she steps out of the water to chat with him, a bikini was the most appropriate attire.”

He adds that the actor had no hang-ups about her costume and was a livewire on the sets.

Mallika SherawatWasn’t Bipasha Basu considered for the same role? Thakeria concedes that Kumar and he had been thinking of various options but eventually decided that Mallika was the best choice.

“Indu (Indra Kumar) spoke to her on the phone and she was really excited, doubly so after she heard the script,” adds Thakeria. Kangna Ranaut who’s paired with Riteish Deshmukh, and Sherawat have hit it off well. The actor also chats up other co-stars, including Arshad Warsi, Aashish Chowdhry and Jaaved Jaffery, during breaks.

“The five guys have worked together in Dhamaal but with the girls entering the picture now, they’re really having a blast. They pull each other’s legs. There are no ego hassles or temper tantrums. It’s one big family here,” Thakeria beams. He insists that Sherawat hadn’t lost touch with Bollywood during her stay in Los Angeles: “She used to watch Hindi movies and kept herself updated on that was happening in the Mumbai through her friends.”
